The Lamborghini LP837, probably called Aventador LP700-4 - the STORY

A lot has been going on about the new Lamborghini flagship that will be unveiled during the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, speculations on both the name and the looks have been buzzing all over the internet for months, but recently a big part of the overall details on the new car have been unveiled by AutoCar, a UK based car magazine.

They were able to drive the existing test mules for the new Lamborghini ... and at the moment there are at least three of them, the 001 car that we've been seeing for months already, heavily disguised and probably not showing any of the final design of the car. There was also a number 002 car that featured an adjustable rear wing but looked similar to the 001 car on the outside, however the drivetrain, engine, transmission and other mechanicals were totally different.

And now we can gaze on the 003 car ... and this one looks a lot better, even with all the black tape on it, we can still see lots of design clues of this car, which by now is almost sure to be called the Aventador LP700-4, an evolution from the LP837, the internal development code for this new model that will succeed the by now legendary Murciélago.

But we can now take the quest one step further, Graphicar made a rendering (based on the Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce press shot if you ask me) of how the Aventador could look once all the tape is taken away and we can admire the orange bodywork that is now visible on some spots.

Anyway, with all these small teasers and little details on the car, the entire mystery on the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 only thickens ... and I'm really excited to get a glimpse of it in the near future.

SwissRacingTeam rolls out Lamborghini Murciélago GT1 car - the STORY

Only two more weeks before the first race of the FIA GT1 World Championship for 2011 will start in Abu Dhabi, and the Swiss Racing Team (SRT in Inwil) rolled out two amazing raging bull that will compete in the series this year.

Both cars are still 'plain body' units for now, but I'm sure these will be covered with sponsors over the next two weeks, but back to the roll out in France were both Karl Wenlinger and Max Nilsson could get eye to eye with their new race cars.

The first test sessions went smoothly, without any problems under an open sky with lots of sunshine and dry track conditions, a perfect setting to get acquainted with these Raging Bulls by clocking some test kilometers in optimum conditions on an uncluttered circuit.

At this moment both cars are being prepared for transport by airplane to the UAE (United Arab Emirates) were the two initial drivers will be accompanied by two more pilots whose names will be communicated soon by SRT.

Othmar Welti, team principal for SRT, was very happy with these first tests, the team at Reiter Engineering created another masterpiece specifically for GT1 racing and delivered the cars in pristine condition to SRT who drove Nissan in a non-satisfying 2010 season by the way … Mr Welti even stated : “we are very happy with the rollout … I am confident that the Lamborghini provide a good base for being more successful than last season.”

At the moment neither of these two Raging Bulls have been thoroughly tested due to lack of time, but the first real taste of the massive potential of these Lamborghini will be obtained on March 23rd during the tests in Abu Dhabi … over the previous weeks times have been difficult to put the change to Lamborghini on track, but in the end it all worked out perfectly and both the team and the cars are ready to go head to head with the fierce competition in the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship.

Lamborghini Jota, the 2012 Murcielago replacement - the STORY

it has been going around the Internet for a while now, but finally something tangible has been seen of what very well could be the next super car from Sant'Agata.

On a snowy test track spy photographers have been able to take images of a test car that clearly shows some special lines that could be interpreted as belonging to a new Lamborghini to succeed the by now aging Murciélago flagship.

It has even been given a name : the Jota, derived from that amazing and legendary Miura from the early Seventies and revived for a short period of time on the Diablo SE30 limited edition as a power upgrade, the Jota could now become a model on it's own.

Naturally no official details are available, it hasn't even been confirmed what this test car represents, but from the images we can see it has the massively wide rear wheels as seen on the Murciélago, so it probably isn't a Gallardo successor although it does use the exterior rear view mirrors from the V10 model at this time, but I'm sure these will be replaced by the time we see it being unveiled in Geneva or Paris in 2010.

We could also speculate that the current steel tube chassis will be replaced by an aluminum space frame clothed with carbon fiber panels to keep weight down, as usual the styling is camouflaged in these shots, but still we can expect styling cues from the Reventòn and Estoque, if we look closely at these shots we could discover those 'opening' shoulder air intakes remain on the successor.

Power could be from a newly developed V12 engine, direct fuel injection will probably raise power output above the 700 Bhp mark being delivered on a new all-wheel transmission that could be acquired from Sweden based Haldex. Remember the engine currently mounted in the Murciélago is still based on the original 3.5 Liter V12 used back in the Sixties on the classic 350GT, so it might be time to take a totally different approach this time.

But just take a close look at these spy shots ... from the front right up to the rear wheel it looks like a Gallardo, the same mirrors, the same door style, the same triangular small window in front of the door, look closely at the design of the door and the front fender and you can clearly see this isn't even an upward opening door, I doubt the Murciélago successor will not use these Lamborghini trademark doors ... but things change considerably around the rear wheel.

Notice that small triangular air exhaust just in front of that rear wheel ? it must be there for something, probably oil cooler like on the LP640 model, the Audi R8 style sides cover the shape of the air intake behind the door, and they even taped some 'TestaRossa' style fins on the door, but I'm sure these won't be there on the production model.

The shoulder mounted air intakes are similar in style to the Reventòn ones, also the engine cover looks like it has been 'borrowed' from the Reventòn two door, and just above that triangular air outlet on the sides there is a crease running upward away from the rear wheel to the front, this hasn't been seen on any Lamborghini yet.

Also the rear overhang is a lot bigger than on the Gallardo, this could be evidence of a big V12 engine mounted longitudinally like on the Murciélago, also note two flat but very wide exhaust outlets in the middle ... these actually look like the ones seen on the Estoque concept four door. A close look at the taillights could reveal Reventòn Y-style LEDs again being used, but that's easy, they've been used on all recent models so it's no surprise they will be featured on an all new flagship in 2012 too.

My best guess would be this is the front of a Gallardo body mounted on a modified Murciélago chassis with the rear of a Reventòn stuck to it because the V12 engine is too large to fit completely inside a Gallardo bodywork and the rear track would be too wide to get tucked underneath a regular Gallardo body shell ... so I really doubt this car could even resemble the styling we'll see on the Murciélago successor when it is shown to the public in 2012 ... all we can do is wait, but I'm sure it will be a stunning exotic that will put it's competitors in the shadow once again ... but the car in these shots is merely a hybrid Gallardo/Reventòn bodywork probably over a new style chassis/drive train/engine combination to allow testing and further development of the upcoming Murciélago successor in moderate secrecy.

New Lamborghini Murcielago Expected in 2012

New Lamborghini Murcielago Expected in 2012

The Lamborghini Murcielago is due for a comprehensive makeover, and this illustration gives us an idea of what a new car might look like. Is this the Murcielago that we might see at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show? Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann likes to surprise us.

With the recently introduced 2010 Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce, the supercar enthusiasts in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, have taken their firm’s V12-powered flagship just about as far as it can go. Introduced in 2001 relatively soon after Audi assumed control of the company in 1998, the all-wheel-drive Murcielago is actually very much a relic of the company’s past. Built on a separate production line from the Audi-engineered Gallardo, the hand-built Murcielago actually has a lot in common with the Lamborghini Diablo, which was introduced in 1990 when the company was owned by Chrysler. Meanwhile the heavy, complicated 6.5-liter V12 has its roots in Lamborghini’s origins in the 1960s. Edmunds.com

The car has yet to be given a name, but it’s expected to combine Lamborghini owner Audi’s aluminium spaceframe chassis with a carbon fibre bodyshell.

That will make it much lighter than the Murcielago it replaces – and guarantees stunning performance to go with the incredible looks.

Lamborghini Murcielago in New Shape Expected in 2012

Up front is a pronounced spoiler and fresh headlamps – but designers have reserved the biggest changes for the rear. They have moved the Murcielago’s trademark angular exhaust closer to the ground, while new strip-like LED tail-lights replace the current square units.

Power is expected to come from a 6.0-litre V12 with around 700bhp – that would propel the car from 0-60mph in just over three seconds. AutoExpress

Lamborghini Murcielago in New Shape Expected in 2012

The looks in this render show that the new Lambo will be wider and longer, taking some design elements from the Gallardo LP560. It’s said that this new Murcielago might also follow in Lamborghini’s plans to make a Hybrid Gallardo. More remarkable is the possible use of a start-stop system that turns off the engine when it’s not needed per example at traffic lights, this is a function we would disable straight away but in the current climate even Lamborghini can’t avoid reducing emissions.
