We already know not to send out more than 5 - 10 home exchange requests at a time to the same area.
Still, it is possible to get through a swap club's entire list of folks in a particular region without finding a suitable exchange.
Then what?
An approach I've seen too many times is to bombard the same exchangers with identical requests.
One British fellow with a large family suggested that his smaller kids "could sleep in the cupboard". This sounded quaint and funny until
1) I realized "cupboard" means "closet" in England and he wasn't kidding and
2) he sent the exact same email again after my first polite "no thank you".
A better approach is to widen your net. It is acceptable, typical even, for an exchanger to belong to more than 1 swap club.
Different clubs seem to draw members from specific regions. You might pick HomeExchange.com for a US exchange but use a club based on Europe for an Italian trade.
You may have already spent $50 on your club dues but many home exchange clubs will refund that money if you don't arrange a trade.
As usual, I direct readers to KnowYourTrade.com for a neutral analysis of the best clubs in every region.
