STILL NO RESPONSES TO YOUR SWAP OFFER?

Wouldn't it be great if we sent out just one swap offer and got our ideal home exchange right away? Of course it doesn't work like that because home exchange is not the same as making a hotel reservation. Despite what some folks might think. Here is a recent proposal I received:

"Where are looking for a place to stay next week in Manhattan for two.
Sincerely"

That was the entire message. How enticing! One week's notice for a transcontinental home exchange. The message was so curt and unappealing I wondered if these folks had mistaken the home exchange club for a hotel listing service.

I clicked on the link to see their home's details. They claim to have a home measuring 450 square meter (approximately 5,000 square feet) in Paris. Homes of this size are very rare in Paris. However, there was not a single photo on this listing so it was impossible to get a sense of the home's size or condition.

Normally I send a polite "no thank you" reply to every inquiry I receive. In the case of people who appear not to be interested in home exchange, or seem suspicious, a case can be made for not replying. I don't think people who approach home exchange in this way should even be doing it so I don't feel bad about discouraging them.

Is it fair to ignore people like this and hope they succeed in finding that hotel they truly want? Is it rude to try to educate them in an email response? Let's hear how you would handle it.
