We said a sad farewell this morning to the amazing modernist architectural gem that was our Vancouver swap house.
It was a beautiful house, made even more exquisite by its location in the middle of a redwood forest.
At home we sleep with a sound soother machine that simulates the noise of a babbling brook. In Vancouver we slept to the sound of an actual stream running past the tall trees right outside our window.
This trip marked both our best home exchange vacation ever and an end, in a way, to our home swap lifestyle.
Don't get me wrong, our next home exchange is scheduled for October. But that's just a long weekend.
With our kids both entering school this September our vacation schedule will be strictly dictated by the New York City board of Ed.
Flexibility is an important part of home exchange. It is much easier to snag a swap if you can adjust your travel dates to sync up with those of your potential exchange partners.
There is one possible advantage to our more limited vacation schedule. We can explore that next time.
