Our thoughtful exchange partners had other ideas, however: a cleaning crew arrived shortly before our scheduled departure time.
The airport shuttle met us at the rental car lot. Finding an off-airport car rental cut my driving time in half and saved me several tolls.
It was sad to see familiar San Francisco landmarks recede into the rearview mirror. We passed the It's It factory. Have you had this delicious chocolate coated ice cream sandwich? Eat one for me when you visit the Bay Area.
This trip is special, however, because we visited with a friend who is now working as a landscape painter. We purchased a pair of her oil paintings to bring home as souvenirs.
