See that photo on the right side of this page? The one with the hot tub? That's "our" home in Hawaii. OK, it doesn't belong to us. But Don, the owner, loves to visit Manhattan and is always asking us to swap again.
My sister is about to leave on a repeat visit to the house. This will be the second time Don has used her apartment. He has also used our apartment twice.
This time sis is bringing along some friends from work "I was thinking of giving them that big master bedroom, because they're a couple" she told me. I know which room she means. In fact, I can tour the whole house in my head, as well as the grounds, with the pineapple and banana plants.
I wonder if she will find a pretty little gecko in the kitchen, like we did. And I'm sure those colorful Hawaiian birds still visit the patio surrounding the hot tub every morning, peeping for crumbs.
As exciting as it is to do a new home exchange, there is something intimate and comfortable about spending time in a swap home you have come to know and love.
Bon voyage, sis. Hope the pineapples are ripe when you get there.
