SWAP CLUB NEWSLETTERS

Lots of home exchange clubs have newsletters. They usually let you subscribe whether or not you are a member of that club. That's because most of them are marketing tools for the club. And most of them read like that. So I was pleasantly surprised to read the latest offering from 1sthomeexchange.com.

The first interesting tidbit from 1sthomeexchange:

"TripAdvisor recently announced the results of its annual travel trends survey of more than 3,000 travelers. Only one percent of respondents have done a vacation house swap but 43 percent would, if given the right opportunity."

The TripAdvisor survey is unlikely to be scientifically valid. It was probably filled out by random visitors to that website. Still, it's worth noting that almost half of them would consider doing a home exchange. Remember, though, that these are self-selected travelers who are adventurous enough to do independent travel research on TripAdvisor. The fact that they are not average tourists is obvious from the self-reported one in 100 respondents who have already done a vacation swap. There is no way that 1% of families in your town have already exchanged.

More interesting tidbits to follow.
