Met the New Swapper

It was a rare treat to be able to meet our next home exchange partner. She was just the sort of flexible, open-minded and interesting traveler that makes a good exchanger. Considering that she only has one swap under her belt she has great potential to be an excellent addition to our community.

The kids were tired from school but she perked them up by describing the wildlife that abounds at her rural home. "Do you like deer?" My son, born and raised in the city looked confused. "What are deer, son?" He hesitantly said "the animals Santa has?"

She moved on to the birds: "Have you ever seen eagle? We have nests of baby bald eagles in the trees." Now he really looked unsure. "Sweetie, why are bald eagles special to our country?" We had previously had a discussion about the fact that the eagle is our national symbol. He had gleaned something else from that chat, however: "Eagles are traif [non-kosher] so we can't eat them."

Obviously I need to get him out into the country more often.
