DANGEROUS HOTELS

There are many reasons I'd rather stay in a swap home than a hotel, but I think the problem with tonight's hostelry takes the cake: space aliens. When we checked in at this "luxury" hotel there was a huge banner outside that read "The Problem Isn't The Lights in the Sky, It's the Lies on the Ground". Yes, we are sharing this hotel with a conference dedicated to "exposing the truth about the UFO cover-up."

Let's say I believe in space aliens. Do I want to be in a place where they may be attending a conference? I do not. For all I know, I may inadvertently offend one in the elevator on the way to my room. If there are beings on other planets they are certain to have differing cultural standards.

On the other hand, if I do not believe in alien invaders, do I want to be surrounded by a large group of people who are so sure they exist that they dedicate their weekend to conferring about the matter and its attendant conspiracy theories? Again, not so much.

Say what you will about home exchange, you are unlikely to share a swap home with anyone who needs to spend $300 to be told that aliens really, truly exist. As a home exchanger I always feel like a sucker when I pay for the "privilege" of staying at a hotel. At least I'm not the most gullible person under this particular roof.
