This is the most incredible swap home I have ever been in. I can't believe anyplace this beautiful, tranquil and bucolic is only an hour's drive from Manhattan. Lucky us that these swappers wanted a weekend in New York City. Though I'm not sure why they would ever leave this place.
It is perched on a hillside with mazing views of nothing but treetops. It's huge, bigger than I need or want in a house, but I'm not complaining. Though they just built it, I would say it is a modern reinterpretation of Craftsman-style, with simple lines and lots of fine woodwork.
The children are ecstatic because the boy who lives here has a huge collection of toy trains. The lady of the house taped a trail of notes with drawings of trains and enticing hints like "This way to Thomas trains!" Charming.
The home exchange instructions were brief. A word or two about the thermostat would have been helpful. But the most important info was there: how to lock these attractive but slightly odd doorlatches. I would never have guessed.
There was only one weird incident when we arrived but I admit it threw me for a loop. More on that after we have settled in. I may never leave.
