Still too timid to try home swapping? Don't worry, I have a special crafts project to help you get in the mood for your summer "stay-cation".
GATHER THESE ITEMS:
- cardboard cereal box
- scissors
- crayons
- hibachi
- matches
STAY-CATION CRAFTS
Cut the cereal box into the shape of a tasty sirloin. Using crayons, color a richly marbled pattern onto the cardboard to make it look like meat. Don't worry if you're a vegetarian, no cows will be harmed.
Set up your hibachi to "grill" the sirloin. You're ready to start your "stay-cation" with a "steak-ation" bar-b-que! Light the cardboard cutlet with the matches. Smell the savory aroma of grilling meat? No? That's because you're having neither a steak nor a vacation. Just a "stay-cation"!
IT'S "STEAK-ATION"!
The moral of the story is this: just because you say it's a steak doesn't mean it is. A vacation where you stay at home is just as much fun as that cardboard steak is nutritious. It does not matter how big or small your travel budget is. You can have a real vacation through home exchange, even if you just use your transit pass to swap homes with someone at the end of the line.
YOUR $1 VACATION
By clicking on the headline of this post at www.HomeExchanger.Blogspot.com you will be routed to a site that lets you book long distance luxury bus tickets for as little as $1. A new network of these coaches now runs as far north as Toronto, Canada; south all the way to Memphis; and east to Chicago and beyond.
I did an arbitrary search for buses from NYC to Washington, DC exactly one month from now. I found multiple departures from midtown Manhattan for exactly one dollar. The bus company offers on-line reservations, electrical outlets and free wi-fi internet access. There were dozens of other scheduled trips on 10 different bus lines for $8 to $25.
The stay-cation is dead. It will not be missed. Do a home exchange.
