LISTING THE HUMBLE SWAP HOME

There is no point in listing a swap home without photos. The only people who will send a request to trade homes with you are "Swap Spammers" who send messages to everyone in the town they want to visit, then ignore all but the most attractive reply.

If you have no photos available, at least show the neighborhood, the outside of the building, or a photo of your family. You need some kind of image with your listing. It simply isn't optional.

Our new apartment is very small. We will be staying at the family vacation home on weekends in June, July and August. I want to start fielding swap requests for summer weekends now but I can't post interior photos of the new apartment yet.

Since I won't get access to the new apartment until the lease begins on May 1, I decided to create a listing now and use exterior photos of the building and neighborhood temporarily.

My first stop was Google.com. Google maps provides satellite photos of most homes in North America. It also has street-level views of homes in major population areas. With Google I was able to post a photo of the outside of the exact building housing my new apartment. It showed the interesting restaurant and trendy boutiques surrounding the building. So far, so good. But I needed more. How could I illustrate what the neighborhood and apartment were like?
