YOUR FREE HOME EXCHANGE PR FIRM

It's a weird experience to see your home through the windows of a multi-million dollar penthouse. Reality television is my least-favorite viewing, but I watched an episode of a new show about high-end Manhattan real estate because it took place in my neighborhood.

The featured apartment was the top floor of a new building across the street from where I live. The prospective buyer was eager to part with five million dollars to enjoy a view he called "fantastic". What he saw through the floor-to-ceiling windows was the building in which I grew up, and the verdant park that surrounds it.

By the end of the episode, the buyer had achieved what he considered a smoking deal -- he paid a bit less than four million dollars for an apartment only 10% larger than mine.

Needless to say, selling a home that requires a lottery jackpot to buy takes a hefty investment in marketing materials. If you notice new construction, or even a high-end hotel, near your home you can harness the owners' marketing efforts to "sell" your own place to other home exchangers.

I used this technique when posting my new listing for the extremely humble apartment I will move to in a few weeks. I have already started to get offers. Some of the requests to swap that I received made me re-think home exchange entirely. Stay tuned for details.
