MEMORIAL HOME EXCHANGE

Within three minutes of pulling into the driveway of our Memorial Day Weekend swap home our children were playing with the two boys next door, who were each within a year of our kids' ages.

While they tried the boys' exciting scooter and ride-on car "with a real gas pedal!" (as my son later told me excitedly), I had the treat of meeting our swap partners.  This is a rare experience for us, since exchangers usually cross paths in transit to each others' homes.

I had spoken to both halves of this couple, and exchanged numerous emails with the Designated Home Exchanger (in this case, Dad).  In person they were the pictures of hospitality.

I bored them with excessive information about caring for our cat, who just had a litter of kittens (not our fault; blame it on romance and a vet that refused to spay until the entire series of vaccines was complete.  On the other hand, if you're on the market for a pure-bred Siamese kitten, let me know right away).

For their part, the exchangers urged us to eat them out of house and home and showed us how to remove the lock plate from their front door if we jiggle the handle the wrong way.

After I completed instructions on the new feline mother's daily foot massage, the swappers, their daughter and her friend sped off to rescue Grandpa, who was waiting to join them at the sometimes dicey Port Authority Bus Station in midtown Manhattan.

If Pop Pop wasn't abducted I am sure they all had a fun weekend.  I know we did, particularly compared to the same experience last year in the same town but quartered in a hotel room instead of a spacious house.  Want to hear how it compares?  Read on...
