Home Exchangers are coming today, and we're going! It is time for my Fabulous 40th Birthday Swap in a cute little castle in France. More on that in the days to come. Posts may become sporadic since I won't pay $3 each to receive emails in France on my Blackberry.
Here's what we did to prepare for our exchange partners:
1) Had the house professionally cleaned.
2) Threw away leftovers and food that would expire while we were gone to empty exactly half of the fridge (and none of the freezer). What made this easier was buying as little food as possible in the weeks before we left.
3) Cleaned out cat litter box.
4) Washed all bedding including duvet covers, shams and mattress pads.
5) Dust everything in sight.
6) Put things we don't want used into our locked closet: delicate cooking knives, new laptop computer, jewelry box, etc.
7) Prepare welcome basket with guide books, airport limo coupon, toiletries, new toothbrushes, sewing kit, city map, transit map.
8) Do all of our personal laundry so dirty laundry is not lying around.
9) Declutter the bathroom: remove our towels, toiletries, etc.
10) Make the beds with fresh sheets, set up temporary Aerobed, put out fresh towels.
11) Welcome exchangers with breakfast the morning of our evening flight.
12) Arrange for our cat sitter to coordinate with exchangers when they leave and get the keys from them.
13) Print home instructions and place in welcome basket.
I'm sure there is something I am leaving out. There's still a lot to do. So I will sign off now and go do it. I'm so excited to be meeting new exchange partners and then staying in their huge castle!
