Whew, glad I got that clarified. Anyway, it seems there are more personal home exchange pages than I thought. Tracy writes in to share hers:
"Great tip - I also created a personal exchange site, and can verify that this tool has very much upped the number of offers I have had, as well as increased the level of interest in my Calgary location when I approach potential exchangers:

Also - thanks so much for sharing you experiences and advice. I always look forward to reading your blog!"
Like Diana's swap page, Tracy's gives much more info on her home, community and herself than a typical home exchange listing allows. Check out her section on local events. It attractively showcases all the fascinating festivals and attractions in her town. This is what I have been telling swappers for years: there is no better way to interest home exchangers in your area than pointing out the activities and fetes that make it special.
Tracy lives in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Well-known for its annual "Stampede", Calgary could nonetheless arguably be called an "invisible" home exchange location. As faithful readers of this column know, an "invisible" home exchange area is one that is off the beaten tourist track. Calgary has its charms but I doubt many American or European home exchangers would think to put it at the top of their travel list. That is, unless they looked at Tracy's excellent description of its many charms.
You also get a sense of Tracy as a person. For instance, she describes herself this way:
" I adore animals and am the proud mother of a feisty 12 year old black cat by the name of "Puddin" (who likes to go to the CatSpa when I am out of town as she can be very difficult with strangers), and would be happy to provide any pet care needed during a home exchange."
Does she sound like a good candidate to care for your cats while you are on home exchange at her place? She sure does! Maybe she'll even treat them to a massage and facial at your local "Cat Spa" while you are gone.
In fact, that will be the topic of the next few columns. I received a question about pet care and have some ideas to make it easier for pet-lovers and pet-loathers alike.
