Take a look at this excellent personal home exchange site designed by a reader of this blog: http://sarasotahomeexchange.blogspot.com/
Diana has done a fantastic job showcasing her home and family. She has sections that expand upon the info available in the average swap club's home listing. The personal web site allows her to go into detail about Our Home, Our Town, Who We Are and local attractions. Of special note is the column of photos on the left side of the page.
Because Diana was able to create her own format for this page, she was able to include much more information in the photo captions than home exchange clubs allow. Here's an example:
" Master Bath
Our bathroom has a separate water closet with a heated toilet (no more cold bottoms), and a large shower with two heads. The floors and shower are yellow travertine. There is a large window made of glass block that allow lots of natural light and privacy at the same time. "
Doesn't that sound great? I'd like to swap with this family just to experience that heated toilet seat! There are also photos of the family's heated pool and all of the kids' rooms. I say "all of" the kids rooms because this family has six children. As Diana puts it:
"We are a family of eight! Yes all six kids have the same two parents (most people wonder, few are brave enough to ask)."
Here you get a sense of who the exchangers are. Diana obviously has a great sense of humor. Her family's abundant size makes this personal web page a great idea. Using the additional space she is able to bring her family and attractive home to life for potential swap partners. Here is an example:
"Cassie is 17 and will be a senior in high school when the new school year begins and hopes to become a forensic chemist, Ariel, who will be a freshman in the fall, is 15 and enjoys spending time with friends, both in person and on the computer and LOVES to shop, Michael is 12 and he and Jacob (who is 10) are avid baseball players. Matthew, who has never seen a video game he didn't love and is an aspiring hockey player, is 8 and Hannah, the baby, is 1 1/2."
If someone contacted me and said, "I would like to swap with you because I have six children." I would, envisioning chaos, probably send them a polite "no thank you". With the more detailed information on the kids that the personal swap page provides, I am instead assuming that the older kids have plenty of experience helping their parents care for the younger ones.
It isn't hard to set up a web page about your home. Diana used Blogger, the same site on which I publish this blog. It has easy formatting and lots of options to make the page look great (most of which I avoided for this blog, unfortunately).
For someone with six kids, a personal web page can make the difference between finding a swap and having to crowd a family of eight into hotel rooms. Whether you have an abundant family or not, consider a personal web page and watch those swap offers roll in.s
