Thanks for your thoughts on "shifty" home exchanges. It seems there is another kind of "shifty" exchanger: the one who lists a property as an exchange, then replies to your offer of a peak time exchange with, "We can't exchange at that time, but would you consider a straight rental? Our home is also listed on [fill in your favorite vacation rental web site].com," (where you can rent it at a luxury rate each week)."
It's one thing if the exchange listing is listed as both a home exchange and a vacation rental, but when it's not, it's just a frustrating waste of time to the party interested in exchanging to have researched the property, written a friendly offer (which you might have sent to another property that was a true exchange, first), and waited for a response, only to have a true exchange opportunity slip away. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on this."
