HONEST HOME EXCHANGE FEEDBACK

To help overcome the drawbacks of rejectable home exchange feedback, I tried to make my review of my most recent swap balanced. I even included a "drawbacks" section. Still, it was obvious to me as I wrote this feedback that if I included anything negative it would probably be rejected.

Here's what I did say. Identifying details have been removed.

OVERVIEW
We were delighted with this home, its location, the swappers and our exchange. The exchangers are very nice and hospitable. They were extremely flexible about dates. They took good care of our cats and our home.

HOUSE
This is a large townhouse. It has a lower floor with a large master suite and bathroom. On the upper floor (entrance) is another master bedroom with bath and a smaller guest room with a bath right next to it. The living room and dining area are an open plan. The kitchen is well equipped and has a breakfast bar and another dining area. The house was very clean. It is in good repair.

NEIGHBORHOOD
The development seems ecologically sensitive. Instead of fake landscaping the homes are set among a natural pine forest. There is a heated pool area very close to the exchangers' home. The exchangers' home seems to be the prime location in the entire development as it is set right on the water with lovely views.

THE EXCHANGERS
These are thoughtful and helpful exchangers. For instance, they made a big sign so we would not be confused about how to find their home from the parking area a few yards away. They also stayed with friends during our non-simultaneous exchange so we could use their home during the exact dates we wanted. They also offered us the use of sports equipment.

LOCATION
This home is right next to Falmouth. Basically, it is in Falmouth. It is very close to the ferry to Martha's Vineyard as well as a nice biking route. There are good seafood restaurants and convenient shopping.

ATTRACTIONS
Day trips to Plymouth Rock, State Parks, museums, Martha's Vineyard, beaches, etc are easy from this home.

DRAWBACKS
The lovely natural setting precludes garages so you have to walk a few yards from your car to their home. Unless you are an avid cyclist a car is needed. Nothing is really within walking distance. It is all convenient by car, or bike, however.

SUMMARY
We will definitely swap with these exchangers again."

Was there anything else negative that I omitted? When they used our home, we were surprised that the swappers did not leave any sort of goodbye note. We don't expect a gift, though we always leave one, but a quick "Thanks for a great exchange!" is free, friendly and takes less than a minute to write.

Of greater concern was that it wasn't clear to us that the exchangers had cleaned our home before leaving. We found crumbs on the counters and floors. On the other hand, they kept the cats alive, didn't break anything and didn't leave our place a wreck.

Finally, this is an issue of personal preference and ridiculously snobby, but we didn't like the swappers' sheets and comforters (duvets). They were scratchy and made from polyester with even scratchier fake-lace ruffles. This just isn't our style. We provide our exchange guests with high thread count sheets made of linen, Egyptian cotton or sateen cotton. We like our beds to be comfortable and inviting.

This wasn't a deal-breaker, however, as we would simply bring our own sheets and blankets if we swap with them again. It's a completely subjective matter of personal taste, and the other issues were not major so I chose not to mention them.

Have you left feedback? What do you think about the available systems?
