THE SMALLEST EXCHANGER CAN VETO YOUR SWAP

Every family member needs to be on board with your swap plans to make sure your exchange goes well. Many times, it's not the oldest or most powerful individual in your swap party who vetos the exchange, it's someone so tiny he or she can easily be over-looked in the excitement of planning your vacation home exchange.

No, I'm not discussing your toddler. It's a smaller family member who may be the most difficult to convince. I'm talking about your pet.

Here's a note from a reader who is wondering how to handle cat care:

"I have been reading your blog with great interest and notice that you have 2 cats. This has always been my concern in doing a swap: my two wonderful cats. ( I loved the picture of one of yours on the newspaper --one of mine makes it difficult for me to read the Sunday Times in bed also.) They are not great with strangers ( they were rescued as adults and are quite timid except with my husband and me). Do the people with whom you swap houses care for your animals? Is it possible to have your regular pet sitter come in to do so while doing a swap? If you could cover this in a blog or send a short reply about how people handle this, I would be very appreciative."

Lots of interesting information here. We'll look into the different issues she raises this week. In the meantime, send in your own thoughts on pet exchange.
