HOME EXCHANGE RELATIONSHIPS

It's a holiday weekend here in the USA. We are headed back to Cape Cod to stay at the same exchange home we used over the last holiday. Our exchange partners used our home earlier this year. We asked to use their home over several weekends since it is close enough for short vacations. Friends of theirs, who stayed at our home as the exchangers' guests, are putting them up so we can use their home at our convenience.

This time, a fun part of our weekend will be having a beer or two with the home owners. Going back to an exchange house we have used before feels a lot like "coming home". Now we know how to work their coffee maker. We won't have to hunt for the vacuum cleaner again. And we have friends to visit.

Hosting exchangers in their own home does feel a bit weird. We make sure to stock plenty of different types of beverages so they don't have to serve themselves from their own cellars when we are the nominal hosts.

Getting to meet your swap partner is a treat. Most of the time. I'll tell you about that experience another day.
