BIGGER IS BETTER?
Turn your swap vacation into a mini family reunion. By inviting grandma and grandpa along -- and offering their home for exchange as well -- you can angle for two different exchange homes in the same town. Bunk the older teenagers with their grandparents and suddenly you're asking for a manageable five people in each exchange home instead of scaring swap partners with your ten-person group.
Accomplish the same thing by inviting friends along. Your kids' best friends and their parents may want to join you on that exotic home exchange vacation. Their home becomes available for swapping at the same time yours is available.
LOCATIONS, LOCATIONS, LOCATIONS
Adding friends or family to your swap group works especially well if they will be joining you from another town. Your exchange offer becomes exponentially more attractive if you write to offer exchangers "a house in San Francisco's Mission District or an apartment in Manhattan" instead of only one destination. Your ideal Chicago exchangers may want to spend New Year's Eve in New York City, or they might only be interested in walking across San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. By offering two possible destinations your offer is so much more attractive that your may double your chances of finding the right swap.
