FACE YOUR HOME EXCHANGE PARTNERS

Being a few years past my 14th birthday, I have never understood the intense fascination social networking sites hold for some people. I'm talking about websites like MySpace and Facebook. They allow users to create a webpage showcasing their interests and providing contact information and a photo of the person. That webpage links to the profiles of the user's "friends". Those friends can be people s/he actually knows, or acquaintances "met" on-line, or profiles created for historical figures: "George Washington is my friend!" or even products.

These sites are touted as ways for friends to keep in touch. You can send email to friends on Facebook, write a message on their profile pages, or, if very gullible, spend real money to send them a graphic of an item (not an actual item). The graphic is then displayed on their personal page.

I created a Facebook page for one reason: it allows me to play on-line Scrabble with others who have their own Facebook pages. It has allowed me to reconnect with people I have not contacted in years. And play Scrabble with them.

Now I have discovered another reason to use Facebook. Your home exchange partners may have their own Facebook profiles. Why is this useful? The obvious answer is this: to play Scrabble with them. But there are other reasons we will discuss tomorrow.
