Can Home Exchangers Afford Cheap Air Fare?

Just when we have been discussing RyanAir, I saw an interesting article in yesterday's New York Times. They mention RA, and other low-cost European carriers like SpanAir, as contributors towards climate change.

It seems the cheap airfares these carriers offer have produced a boom in cheap seaside vacation condos.

Northern Europeans and residents of Great Britain jet to Southern Europe for the weekend the way Americans might drive for an hour or two to a summer home.

Maybe the EuRail pass is a better idea than I thought. Its price is similar to that of the average RyanAir ticket, but the toll on the environment of train travel is far less than flying.

The Times, interestingly, settles our argument as to whether RyanAir tickets are a steal at one penny or a rip-off once taxes are added. They report that the average RA ticket costs a total of $63.

Like I said, to beat the high cost of travel, pick the destination then look for a swap.
