Last weekend we went to our first bicycle rally as a family.
It is important for city kids to get out in the country. Our pre-schoolers stood, confused, at the edge of a large meadow. The field had no sidewalks -- how could it possibly be traversed? They could see bugs flying from flower to flower. In the city, the presence of insects is a crisis requiring that a shoe-wielding parent be summoned to dispatch the intruder.
Somewhere else, their country mouse cousins were seeing a city for the first time that same weekend. So many different kinds of people! Museums, every kind of shop, tall buildings, and all just a short walk from your front door!
When we returned from our 3 day break we felt as if we had been gone for weeks. Kids and adults alike had seen so many new things. And we spent very little money doing so.
Travel is not free, particularly not these days. But with home exchange it can be. Get out the map. Home exchange can save your summer vacation plans.
