We have been looking for a Thanksgiving swap with no luck. We have entered the dreaded "no flexibility zone" of home exchange. We are parents of elementary school-aged children.
Thanksgiving used to be my favorite time to swap homes. By taking three vacation days, in combination with the two holidays, we had a week and a half to travel.
These days we are confined by a strict school schedule to taking just a long weekend at Thanksgiving. We were looking for an exchange close to home, some place quaint like upstate New York, Vermont or Massachusetts.
Instead, we got offers from California. One of them that we received back in July was extremely attractive. Oh well. The United States is a big country. We can't fly the 12 hours to California and back in a four-day weekend. We told the California people with the big gorgeous house in the hills to keep us in mind for a future swap.
We often suggest this if we are genuinely interested in a swap but the proposed timing isn't good. This time we did eventually hear back.
