RV on HOME EXCHANGE?

How are you going to get a home exchange with your large swap party? One solution is to bring your own home along with you on vacation.

You may be renting a car at your destination. A recreational vehicle can get you around town in comfort at a similar cost to a rental car. The smallest RV's sleep up to four and include a toilet, shower and small kitchen. If your exchangers have parking in their driveway or on-street parking you can have your own separate apartment right outside their home.

Even if your swap party isn't large, renting an RV instead of a car allows you to take overnight trips to attractions near the exchange home. Want to see the Grand Canyon as well as city lights? Home exchange in Las Vegas can be enhanced with an RV overnight to Hoover Dam, the desert or other local sights.

In the US and Canada, http://www.cruiseamerica.com/ offers rental RV's in sizes ranging from 22 feet to 31 feet long. The long RV's can sleep seven. Rental fees start as low as $25 per day, with lots of off-peak discount deals available. They also rent travel trailers for about 25% less than RV rental rates, if you have your own vehicle with class III hitch. Cruise America even sells used RV's every year, starting at under $20,000. One caveat: with rental RV's you pay an additional fee per mile. It ranges from 16 cents to 32 cents for each mile you drive the RV. If you're just driving 20 to 30 miles or so each day, that's a not-bad $5 to $10 extra per day. But be careful if you have hundreds of miles of driving planned.

Using an RV instead of a rental car means you can ask for a swap for only five or six members of your group, while letting the remaining three, four or even seven relatives sleep just a few feet away in their own RV "suite".

There are lots more options for large home exchange groups. Stay tuned!
